The School of Climate Change and Adaptation is accepting applications for up to two (2) Student Research Assistant positions

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Dr. Aitazaz Farooque, Professor & Associate Dean, in collecting geo-referenced soil, water, and environmental samples in lab and field environments

  • Support manuscript write-up and data analysis using statistical and modelling tools

  • Contribute to agronomic and plant production efforts through advanced technologies and sensor networks for sustainable agriculture

  • Assist with data preparation (imagery & time series), machine learning, and deep learning applications

  • Assist with climate prediction and forecasting (evapotranspiration and drought) using climatic variables in Atlantic Canada – help prepare peer-reviewed journal articles

  • Participate in training related to sustainable agriculture technologies and production systems to promote climate-smart services

  • Engage in industry field days and meetings to present research findings

  • Receive training in traditional statistical techniques for data analysis

  • Apply advanced machine learning techniques for data analysis

  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports for the funding agency

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® student 

  • Strong professional and technical skills

  • Good academic standing with a strong work ethic

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to work in both lab and field environments

  • Willingness to travel within the Atlantic provinces for data collection

  • Background in precision agriculture technologies and preparing manuscripts

  • Familiarity with data preprocessing and analysis techniques

  • Familiarity with machine learning methods

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Priority will be given to ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
