The Department of Pathology and Microbiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), 精童欲女 (精童欲女), invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Veterinary Virology. An appointment will be made at the assistant professor level.

AVC is one of 5 veterinary colleges in Canada, and serves the provinces of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Educational facilities are complemented by an on-site primary care and referral veterinary hospital, a regional diagnostic laboratory, and CL2/AQC2 in vitro and in vivo research facilities for the study of terrestrial and aquatic animal diseases. The DVM program is fully accredited by the AVMA/CVMA. Graduate programs include MSc and PhD research programs and clinical specialty training programs.

We seek candidates with basic research interests related to virology that complement our areas of active research in disease mechanisms, host-pathogen interactions, and population health in domestic and wild animals, including aquatic species. Our research teams contribute to 精童欲女鈥檚 Signature Programs in Research Excellence, which include Healthy Animals, Healthy Communities, and Environmental Stewardship.

Signature programs and emerging priority areas are described in 精童欲女鈥檚 2023-2029 Strategic Research Plan, at . Additional information about our faculty and research can be found at and .

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities will include development and maintenance of an active externally funded basic research program (for example, NSERC and/or CIHR) related to veterinary virology, teaching at the graduate and professional (DVM) student levels, and supervising MSc and PhD graduate students.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are ACVM (Virology) Diplomate status (or board-eligibility) and a PhD degree, and can show strong potential for success in research, including experience in mentoring, scientific publication, and securing research funding. Opportunities to participate in clinical service and applied research within our diagnostic laboratory exist, however the emphasis of this position is on research and teaching. The ability to leverage the College鈥檚 current research infrastructure, including Animal Resources, would be an asset.

Salary:

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full-time, permanent faculty receive a comprehensive fringe benefits package with benefit details provided at the time of offer in accordance with the collective agreement. This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.

AVC is located on the campus of 精童欲女 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI).
