The TLC is offering a series of workshops to support colleagues getting started on their file for tenure/permanency and/or promotion. Refresh your understanding with our online resources for and and then bring your questions to the workshops.
- Teaching Dossiers for Tenure/Permanecy or Promotion with Kathy Gottschall-Pass. Learn what needs to be included in your dossier under our current collective agreement. The session will look at the requirements and the options for documenting your teaching practice. Join us on Thursday January 15 (snow date Jan. 20) from 1:30 to 3:30.
- Writing YOUR Statement of Teaching Philosophy with Shannon Murray. A statement of teaching philosophy (STP) is an essential opening for most teaching dossiers, and it signals the central beliefs and practices to be found in your teaching dossier. This workshop will take participants through a variety of strategies for crafting an effective statement, looking at examples from across disciplines. Participants will leave with a sound basic structure for their STP. Join us on Friday January 23 (snow date Jan. 30) from 2:00 to 4:00.
- Developing a clinical service dossier. This workshop is still in development but we plan to schedule a date soon.
- Putting it all together with Sharon Myers, Bill Whelan and John VanLeeuwen. This panel of colleagues experienced in working with Tenure/Permanency and Promotion files will share advice about what to do and what to avoid. DATE TBD.

The Council of Atlantic Academic Libraries (CAAL-CBPA) is excited to announce the 2026 cycle of the AtlanticOER Development Grants.
The AtlanticOER Development Grant program is intended to encourage and support educators in the Atlantic region in the adaptation, creation, and curation of Open Educational Resources (OER). These grants provide financial support to educators teaching credit-bearing courses at publicly funded post-secondary institutions who are interested in creating or adapting new educational resources for their classes. There are three tiers of funding that applicants can apply for, each of which represents a different scope and type of project.
Applications for the 2026 cycle of the AtlanticOER Development Grant program open December 15, 2025 and are due on February 6, 2026. The applications are put through a single blind process and a committee of CAAL-CBPA members reviews and ranks the applications. Successful applicants will be notified in mid to late March 2026.

The SSHRC Exchange Publication Award supports the publication of manuscripts, written or edited by 精童欲女 faculty, by Island Studies Press (ISP). This award is being funded by a SSHRC Institutional Grant, therefore, the subject matter of the publication must be compatible with SSHRC鈥檚 mandate (see for more information). One (1) award is available for fiscal 2025-26.
The award of $7,000 will be disbursed to Island Studies Press to cover publication costs (including editing, photo and other permissions, design, printing, marketing, and other costs associated with publishing a book). Authors will be offered ISP鈥檚 standard publication contract, which ensures authorial copyright and includes a royalty structure. Authors will also see their manuscripts reviewed through a peer-review process where appropriate.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Eligible applicants must be Tenured, Tenure Track, Term or Sessional 精童欲女 Faculty, who are employed by 精童欲女 at the time of application.
- Manuscripts may be single- or multi-authored results of academic research projects; textbooks; edited proceedings of a conference; or works of fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, or drama that pertain to the author(s)' discipline.
- The subject matter of the manuscript must meet SSHRC鈥檚 mandate.
- Past recipients of the SSHRC Exchange Publication Award or 精童欲女 Internal Publication Award cannot apply for support for the previously funded manuscript.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 31, 2026

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Applicants are to submit a package that includes:
- Book proposal/summary (maximum of one page)
- A completed or close-to-complete manuscript and a Table of Contents. Note: the manuscript must be complete no later than three months after winning the award
- A curriculum vitae that includes your credentials as author(s)/editor(s)
- Two letters of support (e.g., from your Department Chair, Dean, professional association)
Selection Committee: A selection committee comprised of the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Institute of Island Studies, plus two members of the ISP Publishing Committee, will assess the proposals and make a recommendation to the Associate Vice-President Research. The Managing Editor of the ISP will be a member of the Committee in a non-voting capacity.
To assist in making its recommendations, the selection committee will use a single-blind peer review of the submitted manuscript. Final decisions on publication remain with the Island Studies Press and the Institute of Island Studies.
Reporting: A copy of the book, along with a narrative outlining the publication process 鈥 prepared in collaboration with staff at Island Studies Press 鈥 must be submitted when the book is complete.

All faculty, students, and staff are invited to the next 精童欲女 Research Breakfast, happening on Thursday, January 29, 2026, hosted by Research Partnerships and Innovation (formerly OCII).
The theme of this breakfast is 鈥淐limate Change and Society鈥. Two 精童欲女 research chairs, Dr. Sara Sadri and Dr. Jean Mitchell, will give short presentations about their research. Presentations run from 8:00-9:00 am, with networking and a continental breakfast available at 7:30 am. This event is FREE, but space is limited.

The Office of Continuing Education and Professional Development at the 精童欲女 (OCEPD) is pleased to announce a new professional development opportunity for 精童欲女 staff and faculty. Effective January 5, 2026, eligible 精童欲女 employees may enroll in OCEPD Certificate programs, priced at $1,000 or more, for a reduced rate of $995.
