February is Black History Month, a time to honour the Black community, learn about different cultures that have helped shape Canada, and celebrate the Black athletes, coaches, and staff who are engrained in ¾«Í¯ÓûŮ’s history.
The ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® community will be well represented by both alumni and staff at the national women’s curling championship—the Scotties Tournament of Hearts—taking place in Calgary, Alberta from February 16–25, 2024.
The Bridge Effect: Critical Reflections in the Age of Technological Solutionism, a book co-edited by Drs. Laurie Brinklow and Andrew Jennings, will be launched at the Institute of Island Studies’ Island Lecture Series presentation on February 27.
Eleven ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) teams, composed of a total of 41 students, competed at the 2024 Atlantic Engineering Competition (AEC), hosted at University of New Brunswick Fredericton from January 19–21, 2024, by the Atlantic Council of Engineering Students.
Every week, ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® Panther Athletes of the Week for January 22–28, 2024, are Orianna MacNeil (women’s hockey) and Kamari Scott (men’s basketball).

Dr. Callum Beck, a sessional instructor in religious studies at the ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ®, has been awarded a $7,000 SSHRC Exchange Publication Award for his monograph, The Belfast Riot of 1847.
The ¾«Í¯ÓûÅ® congratulates the 95 student-athletes who earned U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian status for the 2022–2023 season. This number represents 49.5 per cent of ¾«Í¯ÓûŮ’s 192 varsity student-athletes.
